Residencies

Artist residencies move our theatre, our artists, and our community and audiences forward.

OPEN CALL Residency program 2025

Divadlo Štúdio Tanca announces the 3rd year of the residency program.  We offer an appropriate space for the creation of artists in the field of contemporary dance. As in previous editions, this year’s program will seek to provide a space for projects at various stages of the creative process, from initial idea to premiere performance in the theatre. For individuals, companies or other projects we want to provide adequate working conditions and also the professional support needed to cultivate their own creative work. Open call is open to female dancers and performers, but also to auxiliary professions in this field (production, lighting design, sound, camera, management, etc.).

In 2025, we have decided to focus on projects related to our theatre’s vision.

Important to us are:

1. Artistic exchange. Those that will help us to establish long-term relationships and collaborations. Especially those that explore innovative forms or relevant social issues.

2. The process: we will strongly emphasize the sustainability of the applications and the applicants’ approaches to the process of artistic creation and movement material in the selection of residents.

Residency applications will be reviewed by a dramaturgical board specifically created for this residency program and will also be consulted with other experts and the fellowship if necessary.

The condition for participation in the residency is a public output from the creative process and the minimum length of the residency is 14 days.

Call publication: 11 November 2024

Deadline for applications: 11 December 2024

Publication of results: 31 January 2025

Only selected applicants will be informed of their selection via email, others will be contacted in case of any uncertainties and additional questions.

Why do we provide our space for artists to complete residencies?

We are a theatre technically and spatially suitable for the creation of dance works. We see it as our duty to provide these spaces to independent artists or other established companies from Slovakia and abroad.
We want to connect with artists and support their development in the field of contemporary dance and physical theatre.
In addition to a technically equipped space, we also provide the professional support needed to cultivate one’s own practice and self-development.
Residency programs also bring us new inspirations that come with each artist’s unique approach.
We provide our audiences with the opportunity to confront the work of visiting artists with our own.
Residencies often result in a work-in-progress output, so the audience can see the process of creation and influence it with their questions, opinions, and reactions. And deepen their perception of the specifics of dance art.
